Yes! You read the title right; I am a bold and proud FEMINIST. Yesterday I was charged to express how I defined Feminist and my thoughts started to scramble. Feminist to me is defined as more than just a wordy definition that describes one’s ability to fight for the equality of women. It’s an action that when observed one is able to understand that he/she is actively engaged in empowerment and equal rights of women. It’s in the respect, knowledge, support, and love of the woman; a belief that she is no less than any other and that her abilities are equivalent to that of man. I would call myself a feminist and yes I am male. I guess I have always been FEMINIST, but not really sure what that really meant in terms of being male. From long back as I remember I have always been a strong lover of women; not for their beauty, or curves, but for their confidence and persistence even when the odds were stacked against them. Supernatural Strength is what I call it! As a progressive; yet educated male it is important for me to advocate for the equality of women in this world that still carries the notion that men are more dominant than women. The male chauvinist attitude that just won’t go away. I’m sorry men; women are doing things for themselves better than we ever could. I don’t think we as men give enough respect for women who have started their own businesses, birth children, hold down the household, and lead our many government agencies; all this in excellence. Just look at whose running for the President of the United States. I know I just lost my MAN card, but who cares WOMEN ROCK and I’m going to continue to advocate with you.
James Brown sang the song “This is a man’s world” and the one line many forgot was it would be NOTHING without a woman or a girl. This statement is so true! Man wouldn’t be born if it wasn’t for the superpower like ability women possess. We forget that it is women who nurture, protect, and guide it’s young to be the enact su
rvivors we become. It is women who voice their opinions passionately without question that uniquely changes the way we think and feel. Just yesterday I was asked the question from a member of the Feminist Business Society (Check them out) that stated: There are many (men) that would say they are not a feminist because the origin of the word is feminine. What would your response be if someone said something of that nature to you? My response was simple; being feminist doesn’t make one feminine…it makes one aware. I believe that we find ourselves so engrossed in gender roles that leave some ignorant to understanding the true meaning of the word FEMINIST. There are many strong dominant men like President Obama who boldly states his support of the Feminist movement. It’s not a gender role…it’s a daily attitude about the equal rights of the woman. We have to breakout of the stereotypical attitudes and embrace the lack of equality present in today’s time. Women still provide the backbone we men need to survive and yet many of us neglect to show them mutual respect. It has to end and we have to embrace the effort to continue to walk the FEMINIST walk.
I have attached myself to women from the time I entered the world. Unconsciously knowing that they would soon become my best friends, motivators, and protectors through life. I have secretly entered a society of women that are free to share their ideas on life, career, and unified organization as women. As a man, I have found it a great necessity for man to engross himself in the lives and every circumstance of the woman. We as men have consistently caused the woman to compete; placing them against each other in terms of beauty, advancement, and just overall being. Honestly, that’s a sick way of viewing these beautiful creatures who are born with magical powers that we men would never know the beauty of. In the movement of young Feminist I have found that women have stripped the competition concept and have built a bond of collectivism; constant encouragement and development of ideas that support all women. The female species knows how to build together without needing the “power” of the man. Remember Beyonce sang, “Who Run the World”? I think it’s pretty clear now.
As a feminist man, I am constantly outraged by the depiction of women in reality shows and television. It seems as though we have setback women to the idea of overly sensitive, aggressive animals; who have a tendency to pop off and have sex with men for economic gain. It’s like the woman has resorted to the being of just a lay and play character. Come on…..we must do better. Through the viewing of this tasteless programming; there are young girls and boys who will grow up to believe that this behavior is ideal. Fostering an understanding that being a Bad Girl and Diva is all they have to live up to or in the man’s sake date. It is not! I have found that we neglect to support the rise of the woman. The increase in her ability to shatter glass ceilings and knock down walls. It is those images that need to be supported. It is the whole principle of feminism that unites women to together to continue an existence that is just as strong and just as equal to the male counterpart.
Mood: I am FEMINIST
