For those who know the man behind mOOdee creates knows that music feeds my soul and mirrors my personal thoughts and feelings. For those of you who don’t know, you will learn today my deep passion for a lyricist who is able to move my soul with the magic of his/her lyrics and melodies. Well I have found the album for you! One that resembles my current state of being and paints a masterpiece of cultural truths. In a time where we are facing a change in the Presidency, Blue on Black crime, and terror attacks, music has been the source of healing and coming together for the betterment of tomorrow. My social media timelines were a buzz at this pretty brown girl named Solange whose sister I adore much released an album that is making people pay attention. She is starting the movement to awake the nation. “A Seat at the Table” what a title packed with so much meaning. You already know that I was eager to take a listen. Tidal you have me; I am know a customer. Yes I paid for the membership, because this was a music must. Solange I have always been a fan, but now have so much respect for your unapologetic approach to music and your message. Here are some reasons why you should be eager to listen to this beautiful collection of self-empowered, unity building songs of yesterdays and today’s harsh realities.
We have a lot to be mad about, but this collection of music sends a sense of awake through the body. It’s like the ease of her melodies and words paint a beautiful picture of the issues, but and colorful understanding of how to understand the now that we live in. It’s like a guide to the here and now and what could be if we learn to understand each other. It takes the experiences and dialogues of Tina Knowles and Master P, with the lyrical flare of Lil Wayne to express what many have a hard time dealing with; the essence of being Black in an Anti-Black world. It speaks of how we unify together to build businesses and movements to develop a sense of belonging in a world who wants us not. It sets in a confidence that if imprints the notion if those before me can rise from their troubles why can’t I.
Black is beautiful! A self-awareness musical journey through personal accounts of positive self-regard. Realizing that the color of our perfected tanned skin should never be viewed as dangerous or unforgiving, because it has been the color of royalty and power. This creative genius opens up conversations about the ideal of racism and how our esteem for all that is Black is viewed as racist when we passionately love the skin that we are in. The collection of songs like “Don’t touch my hair” and “F.U.B.U.” help us understand the sense of being of the mighty us that we are. It reaffirms that we are magical and should walk as if we are KINGS AND QUEENS and nothing less. This album is definitely for us, to help us stay educated and not for those who want to continue their walk in ignorance. It ignites a fire to be proud of the Black walk and a sense of greater in a world that has become the Black hater. A musical movement that was much needed.
I have had this album on repeat since my first listen yesterday and every listen brings me to a new glimpse of understanding. Helping me find a meaning of who I am that inspires my need to create. To be the Langston Hughes in this new era jungle. Using my love of the words to drive a gentle force to the movement of my people. If you’re looking for something fresh and edgy I dare you to take a listen to “A Seat at the Table”, it has a message for everybody. Grab a glass of wine, kick your feet up, and be ready to be moved. It’s a breathtaking view of the rise, fall, and triumph of the Black culture. This album is just where we need to be; always knowing that we are the chosen ones.
Mood: Thankful for this masterpiece of musical genius!
