I’m so tired, when will this day be over, ugh I hate Mondays….we have all been victim to the Monday Blues, but has it really been that bad? Monday’s can actually become the best day of our week. Well It’s Monday again; the day most Americans dread and anticipate its ending each and every week. Monday is just like any other day, no different from that of Wednesday. It’s just that we place so much emphasis on Monday as if it’s a death sentence for our week ahead. We have to find a better way to jump start our week that doesn’t include Monday bashing. Yes, I have been a fan of Monday bashing, but I am trying to find better ways to make Monday a day of new vision and promise for the week. I actually now look forward to Monday, because it helps me create a new purpose for the week. We have to break the social conditioning of the Monday blues and learn to embrace this day like the movers-and-shakers, high-performance, nothing-is-impossible-super achievers.
Monday and education typically have a love/hate relationship. It’s the starting of a new week, but the promise of a new headache. Mondays are at times mad days, because students are adjusting back from the weekend and professionals are secretly wishing for a spontaneous day off. That’s not going to happen this week. With staff meetings, lesson plans, and other duties that make Monday most hated; its not wonder why Monday gets a bad rep. We have to learn to use Monday for all it could be, a way to bring new inspiration to a work projects that could bring change to the performance outcomes. Monday can really be a new day of inspiration and motivation to have a good week. Great things can happen on a Monday! We want to program ourselves to start well, so that we finish even better. A horrible Monday can set you up for a horrible Tuesday, Wednesday, and you get the point. So why are we so upset with Monday.
Monday is preceded by a great Sunday; one that was both bright and full of fun. Monday marks the end of the fun for five days of nothing, but major adult responsibility. We hate our alarm clocks and yell out “OMG it’s Monday again”, but it doesn’t have to be that way. We have to learn how to operate on Monday during Sunday, using that day to plan for the day ahead. Using Sunday to jump start Monday takes away the negative connotation we typically have for Monday. Prepping for the Monday ahead of time gives us a better outlook of how our morning will be. It gives us a better since of hope for a mighty and great day. Keep in mind that yes things don’t always go as planned, but planning will leave one less stressed and less evil with Monday. We have to channel our weekend superpower to knockout Monday.
Emotions play an important key in the Monday blues. We humanly have not found a way to display positive emotions on such a dreadful day. According to some research, 90% of people who are working somewhere feels really lazy on Monday mornings. Therefore, most of people would be frustrated on every Monday morning and that’s why no one smiles on Mondays. Frowning faces aligned with horrible attitudes on the first day of the work week will turn Monday into a day we become hostile about starting. If we tried using our ability to greet others with a smile, Monday becomes just a joyful as a Friday. It honestly doesn’t hurt to smile.
In the age of vision boards and goal lists, we have to start creating weekly goals that help refocus our Monday misery. Beginning to plan an end goal for the week will create a since of eagerness to achieve that will use Monday as a launch pad to success. Try this: Use one hour out of your Monday work day to create a mini vision or goal list, so that you have something to work towards. There is much to be done, so this shouldn’t be difficult. After your list is created post it somewhere visible and work from Monday to Thursday end of business to achieve it. Your Monday will be light and your work week full of promise. Just like that you have already made your Monday more manageable. It’s pretty simple. Once we have washed away the attitudes and bias we have for Monday, we will begin to use this day as a day to plan to achieve greatness for the week.
mOOdeers we can do this! Let’s plan to have a MAGNIFICENT MONDAY!

Mood: Ready to set this work week a blaze.
