What are you telling your storm.
The holidays always seem to bring a happy, but stressed thin feeling. We are excited for the festive activities it brings, but anxious about the amount of money we spend creating memories for ourselves, family, and friends. This is the time when personal storms come hitting harder and wrecking everything in its way like a Category 5 hurricane. Storms with catastrophic winds of 150+ that cause misery and blues to ring out louder than the Christmas tunes that were made to remind us this wonderful time of the year. Yet we sit and watch the storms develop from beginning and end, while sulking deeper into a world of here we are again, what should I do, and Lord, have I forsaken you. It’s time to start speaking over your storms and confess brighter days now. Make that your holiday gift.
In life we have the time and the resources to prepare for natural storms. We take shelter, purchase supplies, and pray for safety and minimal to no damage. Yet, we forget to use the same preparation list for the personal storms we face in life. We forget to take shelter in God, use what he has blessed us with to get through, and drop to our knees to acknowledge that damage or no damage God intended for this to make us stronger. We weep and tell God how massive the storm, but forget to use to storm to restore our vision and wash our slate clean. Seeing that the storm washes away what we didn’t need, by showing us what we already had to get us through to the other side of the resistant eye. We focus on the level of discomfort that the storm causes and cease to speak words of affirmation that brings down the wall of the storm to weaken its impact. Forgetting to battle our storms with a positive mind and heart of valor knowing that he has did it before and will do it again. He made us strong enough to weather the storm; even the strongest of them.
Storms provide us time to reflect. Understanding what brought us here and the tools we have to defeat them. It’s within these times that we find our God given inner strength to plan to end our storms and declare victory. Saying to ourselves that “this too must pass” and if “God brought me to it, he will bring me through it.” We must not warrant the storm to return, by renewal its position in our lives. We have to learn to end the method that intensifies our storms. Replaying the soundtrack of doom, giving up, and letting the storm do what it does best; wreck everything in sight. Stop forecasting cloudy days, dark nights, deep floods, and high winds. Start seeing yourself basking in the rays of glorious blessings and endless rainbows.
Prove your storms wrong and continue to strengthen your foundation post storm. Let your storm know that you shall not be moved and that God is your be all and end all. Acknowledging that a storm will not shaken what God has made to stand strong. Speak to your storm and let them know that you will ride out this storm despite the additional damage that may occur. React in God’s light during the mist of the storm, thinking things through, praying and trusting in yourself, and believing your prayers will be answered and the storm will be over. Learn to trust God to handle your storms instead of trying to be the meteorologist, the first responder, and one to relief. Leave it to God and watch your storm quickly end.
