Word Wednesday…

The truth shall set us free!!!!

Racial disparity” is defined as existing in the criminal justice system when “the proportion of a racial/ethnic group within the control of the system is greater than the proportion of such groups in the general population.”dp-news-court-data-20150201

mOOdie sentence: There are significant racial disparities in how US police use force. Black people are much more likely to be killed by police than their white peers.

I use to think that my future looked bright, but now it seems like its as cloudy as a dark and stormy night. Understanding that what once was labeled unconscious is now a subconscious view of  racial biases by the judicial departments that don’t and won’t protect you. Understanding that calling the cops to secure my well-being can quickly result in the use of excessive deadly force, including shootings and head strikes with impact weapons; unnecessary, excessive, and retaliatory force to leave us dead. Consequently causing our ending. Realizing that every brown and black body is one shot away from being a hashtag or the subject of enraged demonstration.

One shot away from a grieving mother and uncontrollable family.

One shot away from being a limp body laying on the cold concrete until the police decide to identify me.

One shot away from the news anchor telling my story, while the police department covers up the noticeable truth and sings the guilty officers story.

One shot away from being placed in a 84 inches long by 28 inches wide by 23 inches tall confined box.

One shot away from another white face freed from homicide charges.

One shot away from another injustice, because my body means nothing.

One shot away from mistaking my raised fist for a semiautomatic gun.

One shot away from unreleased or edited body cam videos.

One shot away from the cop being just in his violent ways.

One shot away from one cultures praise as another weeps in sorrow.

One shot away from being added to a list of brothers and sisters who never found their way home.

One shot away from never seeing the sunlight of a new day.

One shot away from another Brown/Black brother gunned down for the sake of one persons interpretation of my possession of a fictional gun.

Speak out against what is wrong will only prove the rights that we have as freed men and owners of our lives. Stand tall and call it what it is. Racial disparity has to end!

mOOd: Justice for Stephon Clark.
