Music Monday…..

Coachella…nope…Our-chella

Queen Bey, Mrs. Carter, the Dean of Pledges of BΔK herself has once again left an imprint on our lives. She has blessed us once again with a performance that was both woke and very much needed. Beyonce’ has informed us that she is BACK and is a force to be reckoned with. So now we most wake the heck up and notice what lies between the lines. Yes I am a week late, but not short of commentary of how wonderful this live stream footage was of Beyonces’ Coachella performance. If you didn’t get a chance to see all of the amazement and pageantry; you were either sleep or dare not to  live within the world of social media frenzy. If you want to set your Monday off with a sure shock then head on over to Youtube and get you a taste of Lemonade with a hint of Hot Sauce. Nasty, but good for your cultured soul.

After months of waiting for her to drop a single, show up to perform at an awards ceremony, or just stream a impromptu video of her singing to the twins; she gave us enough to curve our appetites until the tour hits. Now….I am singing her praises, but a lot of people didn’t enjoy her tribute to HBCUs and our College experience. Many thought it was a joke on culture while others were ready to dust off the Nancy Boots and Horns to hit one more 90 across the 50-yard line. I know I turned my bedroom into the practice field and realized that this aged body couldn’t keep up with the new age band mindset. I loved the tribute, while others hated it. What is great music if it isn’t controversial?

The talk about this epic performance has left some confused about Beyonce’s stance on Black America. The Gram, Twitter, and Facebook were a mixture of high praise and blunt condemning attitudes towards the Queen. I believe that she is becoming aware of the greatness that exists within her people. To stand on a platform of stardom and use it to display one’s culture is what I like to define as (doing it for the culture). It was time for others including ourselves (Black People) to realize the importance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Those who once stated that these schools were full of Black people and don’t produce greatness like Harvard and Yale. Who told that lie you? The legacy, the pride, and the unity one has because of the shared oneness that can not be replicated.  It was in this very moment that people question their reasons for not attending an HBCU because if you think that was LIT you need to take a trip to a HBCU Homecoming or Football Game. Go get you some culture.

DazinIuU8AAPvlZBeyonce used her songs, creativity, and wit to support a cause and paired it with a scholarship give away. I think she heard me when I tweeted about her giving away a scholarship…LOL. I told y’all we were close! Yes it will take more than her performance to wake the world, but she hit a mark. Realize that she used a predominantly White event to showcase Black Culture at it’s best. Listen if you don’t know the significance of the Swag Surf to a campus of HBCU college students then that moment in time was far beyond you. Pay attention to what she gave us and you will see the magic. It’s time to start representing our own greatness and stop being upset when a celebrity does it. This is the what they like to see…us hating on each other when we are trying to bring our collective selves together.

mOOd: She did it for the folks #wakeup
